In March 2022, the Beasley Allen Whistleblower Litigation Team secured a $1,438,467.74 jury verdict against the Birmingham–Jefferson County Transit Authority (BJCTA) under the False Claims Act (FCA). Whistleblowers Starr Culpepper and O. Tameka Wren alleged that the BJCTA made false claims to federal transportation officials regarding the selection process for architectural and engineering (A&E) services. In March 2023, U.S. District Judge Corey L. Maze affirmed and tripled the damages, resulting in a final award of $4,623,403.22, and imposed $308,000 in civil penalties for 22 violations.
